Bids are pledges to donate to a member's favorite charity for a chance to match. So when a member is interested in another member's profile, a bid may be placed for a chance to match.
The member placing the bid is considered the bidder and the member receiving the bid is considered the auctioneer. All members can be bidders and auctioneers. To place a bid, a valid credit card needs to be on file. Only if a bid is accepted, a match is established and the bid amount becomes a pledge to donate. In this case, the bid amount gets authorized by the bidder's credit card company to benefit the auctioneer's favorite charity. If a bid is not accepted by the auctioneer, a match is not established, and the bidder is not charged with no further obligation.
Offers are the opposite of bids. Meaning if a member is interested in another member, the member can place an offer that he or she would approve on behalf of their own favorite charity for the other member to donate to. In the case of offers, the member placing the offer is the auctioneer and the person receiving the offer becomes the bidder.
Members that have no interest in matching and communicating with a member but like their profile and cause and wish to support that member's favorite charity may do so by clicking on the donate button. A match is not established in the case of a direct donation.
The bid and donate buttons are displayed on each member's profile page. It's important to note that there are only limited members entertaining offers as only members that have a credit card on file and have opted to receive offers may do so.
